His ineptitude, indecision & ignorant grandstanding over FOREX policies quickly eroded our reserve within days, destroyed the Naira value overnight & led to austerity measures that makes it difficult for millions of Nigerians to pay for simple transactions on the international scene using their hard earned legal money. I won’t mention the local inflation amidst stagnated wages.
Whereas, his cronies, family & himself are not bound by the same restrictions and do not experience the daily suffering of the people because of their privileged political status. His handlers say this was meant to improve patronage of made in Nigeria, to grow Nigeria. Good enough rhetoric, I like their idea. Well done..!!
What I don’t understand is if the medical services provided in London are made in Nigeria, as well? Does he pay for the services used abroad in Naira?? I am not sure what level of comfort/rest that is provided in London that cannot be delievered in the luxurious State House at Abuja or better still, in one of the best hotels made in Nigeria so we can keep our money within by spending in Nigeria..?? If it is security, if he doesn’t feel safe here with his limitless access to protection as commander in chief, why are the rest of us still here, we ‘ve got to relocate, don’t you think so?
Maybe, it is about medical expertise. Alright, patronizing foreign medical experts provided abroad is surely the best way to grow Nigerian local capacity and promote made in Nigeria, right? Yes, that’s it. Well, how can I boast of Nigeria’s abundant medical expertise available locally and in the diaspora when the #1 citizen doesn’t think so?
Wait a minute, what expert anywhere in the world would refuse to come treat the Nigerian President in Nigeria when everyone knows we have got oil money? FG can pay any bill, hmm! Afterall, i can’t recall anyone suing the Nigerian Government for Late yar Adua’s foreign medical bills. I trust we must have paid much ahead, in advance, if not in excess. Or did i miss any such drama? Maybe the treatment is location specific and has to be taken on European soil, it may fail if given around the equator where Nigeria is located. No, the machines to be used are too expensive for the Nigerian government to acquire and install in our national hospital so that other Nigerians with the same illness can benefit from it afterwards. No, how can the commoners, who elected him under the sun and in the rain, look forward to use services their president used. Don’t you know the facilities provided abroad are exclusive for him alone? No, he can share with white people but, not with fellow citizens. Please, i am not sure we allowed to talk about the billions budgeted annually for the state house hospital, aside from the private clinics exclusive to the president & his family within Aso Rock. No, I refuse to be distracted by that.
Again, it may all be about keeping his ailment secret. Yes, he has to be treated abroad where no one leaks any secrets. You know Wikileaks is made in Nigeria or don’t you? Afterall, he has a right to privacy as guaranteed in our constitution. Don’t you think that must be upheld against all odds? His public servant status as defined by law is secondary and must be over-ruled. Could he have been diagnosed of an ailment wherein he is the only Nigerian, out of 180million, who has that type of illness? If any other Nigerian has is suffering from a similar illness, how important is he or she? They can die for lack of local capacity to treat them if they like, who cares? Wow.., now that is very patriotic.! Perhaps, a little patriotic mindset would have thought that his being treated in Nigeria was a lot more plausible political capital than what they are doing.
As a Physician, I know too well that there is no medical procedure that whomever needs that can not be done in Nigeria. Yes, you may purchase new machines or bring in some foreign expertise to work with the local ones thereby enhancing skill transfer that will make that expertise available locally afterwards. Alright, I forgot that the Nigerian hospitals can suddenly go on strike while he is on treatment. Or the doctors being Nigerian could make the treatment not work, afterall, it is common knowledge that many Nigerians don’t like their elected politicians. But, if that was the fear, are his security men and women not Nigerians.? Again, they could be Egyptians, afterall, a former leader in Africa was once alleged to be guided by Israeli all-female special forces.
Well, as a Nigerian, I can understand his fears except that available evidence shows that the last president who was persistently kept abroad for foreign medical care was returned back here on life support, as we were made to believe. That’s how better foreign medical care is compared to care received on Nigerian soil. I hope the NMA and other health professionals visited their religious houses for thanksgiving after the previous incident.
Yes, i said thanksgiving.!! Not for his death, of course, no..!! But, that they were not unlucky to have been the one who treated the president here and he died. No one would have believed whatever stories they had to say. There will have been a probe. Worst still, if the expert who treated him was of another tribe, aaahhh, long story.!! They would have been accused of lacking expertize, negligence, conspiracy, etc. So, they should thank God ooO. Hhhmmm, I am sure the case would still be dragging till now if they were not summarily judged and jailed. The truth is, if any medical treatment is analyzed with hindsight, there will always be one thing or the other which the clinical team did or didn’t do that may have changed the outcome seen, theoretically. Hence, any partial panel can always find the doctors guilty if they want to.
Now, let’s come to think of it, some foreigners treated our number one citizen and returned him back to us dead or on life support, whichever is correct, and no probe was conducted till date on what happened to him while abroad. Nobody questioned. Hhhmm, don’t forget, that the president in question left our shores alive to go seek treatment. An attempt was made by the legislators to investigate but, the motion was dead on arrival. Let’s close it there. That’s history.!
Back to reality.! Let’s talk about today, are you still here, is history repeating itself in our very “before” [in colloquial usage], in less than a decade?? What has Nigerians learnt??
I am just asking questions..! You may have the answers.!! I didn’t say anything oOO.!!! But, you can say something..!!!! I will be listening..lol 😃
